Almost time…
Our 18 day trip to Japan is sneaking up on us. I am writing this just 30 hours before our flight leaves, and tought I’d take a small moment to go through all the preparations we have and have not done. I think this might be sufficient to the stage and tone, so let’s open the curtains and reveal the cast:

Together we are, of course:

Of the 18 days, only the first 6 days has been planned. In addition, there has already been a couple of interesting points of research we have covered:
Some practical concerns when going to Japan
- As it is by far the cheapest mode of transportation in Japan, we bought a 7 day JR Rail pass through Japan Specialist As stated on many other pages, the only way to get hold of these passes is buying from abroad. The tickets has to be shipped, so plan in advance.
- Being fans of the fantastic Hayao Myiazaki, we preordered tickets to Ghibli Museum from Japan Specialist. This is not really necessary, as the tickets are sold for the same price in Tokyo, but at least you get a reserverd spot.
- Having heard that free WiFi in Japan is very spotty, and that even expensive hotels take around ¥1000-2000 for a day of (often only cabled) internet, we researched prepaid SIM-cards. Getting this is not possible if you are not a legal resident of Japan, but it is possible to rent a phone/SIM-card or a MiFi on the airport. And that is expensive…
